Santiago Canyon Cellars - The World's Best Vineyards
Suscol Ranch Vineyard, Carneros AVA, Napa, California
Our
award winning Merlot and Cabernet are from the Suscol Ranch
Vineyard. Suscol Ranch
Vineyard is located in the Jamieson Canyon, on the southeastern edge of
Napa Valley, and is part of the Carneros AVA. Jamieson Canyon has a
unique micro-climate created by the narrow, sunny canyon, and cooled by
nearby Carneros breezes. Planted in 1987 by the Laird Family, Suscol
Ranch Vineyard's fruit embodies the depth, complexity and
character of mature grape vines located in the Carneros.
Carneros
is a 90 square mile region located along the low lying hills of the
Myacamas range across the southernmost edge of both Sonoma and Napa
counties. The close proximately to the cool fog and breezes from the
San Francisco bay makes the climate in Carneros cooler and more moderate
than the regions further north in Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley,
perfect for producing award winning wines including Merlot, Chardonnay
and Pinot Noir. The soils of the Carneros region are
predominately clay, very thin and shallow (approximately 3 feet/1 meter
deep), providing poor drainage and fertility. The fierce and persistent
winds coming off the bay challenges the grapevines to struggle and
retain moisture. This environment keeps crop yields small, and
encourages the fruit to ripen slowly to produce a rich, intense and
vivid flavor profile.
The Sta. Rita Hills viticultural appellation is unique with the only west to eat mountain range in California. Sta. Rita is therefore the best situated micro-region to receive the maritime influences that create the ideal climate for the growing of exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay winegrapes. Inspired by the incredible potential offered within this wine region, a diverse group of talented growers and winemakers are producing some of California’s most exciting Pinot Noirs, and Chardonnays.
Rita Hills is a relatively small appellation of approximately 100 square miles. Intersected by the Santa Ynez River, the cool climate appellation is located between the towns of Buellton and Lompoc in Santa Barbara County, California. The Sta. Rita Hills Winegrowers Alliance includes both vineyards located within the geographical boundaries of the appellation, and those who craft wines from grapes grown here.
Bucklin Old Hill Ranch Vineyards,Organic - Sonoma Mountain AVA, Glen Ellen, California
The 2,400-foot Sonoma Mountain range begins to rise above the town of Glen Ellen at the western edge of the Valley of the Moon. Here are high-altitude, steep-sloped vineyards, with eastern exposures to catch the fog-free morning sun. These vineyards fall within the larger Sonoma Valley AVA, but due to the unique hillside terroir, they use the specific designation of Sonoma Mountain AVA. Powerful, yet elegant Cabernet Sauvignons – the appellation’s specialty – grow here on well-drained soils. It is the singularity of Cabernet Sauvignon that most concretely defines the Sonoma Mountain American Viticultural Area.
Old Hill Ranch is the oldest vineyard in Sonoma County. William McPherson Hill founded Old Hill Ranch in 1851. Hill was the first grower in Sonoma to plant non-mission grape varieties which he imported from Peru of Spanish origin. In 1855, when Hill and General Vallejo owned the most extensive vineyards in Sonoma County, Hill had planted Zinfandel. In 1889, Hill sold much of his land but kept two parcels, the south-east corner 60-acre portion, which is now Old Hill Ranch, and a 100-acre parcel on Sonoma Mountain which his son later sold to the famous Jack London in 1903.
Sangiacomo Home Ranch Vineyards, Organic - Carneros AVA, Sonoma, California
After
emigrating from Genoa, Italy, to California in 1927, Vittorio and Maria
Sangiacomo purchased the original 120-acre Home Ranch Property. They
developed a reputation for growing premium fruit, and in 1971, the
family plated its first vineyard, the Home Ranch Vineyard. The
Sangiacomo family pioneered organic dry farming in Sonoma. Today,
seventy-six wine producers purchase grapes from the Sangiacomo
Vineyards, including award-winning brands Acacia, Rombauer, La Crema,
Benzinger, and Chasseur.

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." - Thomas Jefferson
